Five Things…

23 Jan 2007

Katia tagged me with the “5 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Me” post. Hmmm… can I come up with five things you probably don’t know about me? Maybe these…

1. Though my younger, road-trip-with-Dad self is surely somewhat mortified by this admission, some time in the last five years or so I fell in love with country music. This is sort-of like my great friend Antonio Galloni returning to his roots, except his roots involve opera and the world’s finiest wines. Mine are more like rural Alabama, “my wife left with my dog in the back of my big ol’ truck”… I’m not knockin’ it (I love it!), I’m just sayin’. I love the contemporary country stuff, not Dad’s hardcore classic country. It’s funny to listen to Kenny Chesney in Switzerland, but sometimes you could find me doing just that — whizzin’ through the St Gottard tunnel singing his, “Boston” or the Dixie Chicks’ “Wide Open Spaces” at the top of my lungs.

2. Sometimes I eat terribly, if at all. I don’t take care of myself. This is ridiculous and I know it and I can’t even describe it here or my parents will have a coniption or something. To my credit, I do things to try to mitigate it… like make big pots of soup I can eat for days and store crackers in my desk at work now. This is an improvement.

3. I was on Romper Room when I was three. It was the first taped episode if I remember correctly. Some people know this, so I don’t think it really counts.

4. Ooooh… this is embarrassing, but when Steve was arrested I’d actually gotten myself into a position where I had no money — like my name wasn’t on any of the bank accounts that had money in them. How stupid is that? Why do otherwise smart, successful women get themselves into such positions? It’s actually quite amazing to see how quickly life can turn around.

5. I’m actually quite driven by a need for security, which I think may be surprising since I move around and am up for new things. I don’t like big cities because I don’t feel safe; I am one of those people who actually looks up crime statistics and stuff; I don’t like risky investments, etc. Yes, that’s it — I am risk-averse.

Hmmmm… that’s all I can think of now. Katia, where did you go to school and what did you study, Miss Magna Cum Laude?

Check your number five with my most recent post about the naked madman. I certainly don’t want to know about the statistics in my neighborhood. I’m sure it would completely freak me out. (Lalalalalala – fingers in my ears).

I graduated from the College of Santa Fe – nothing fancy or ivy league – with a degree in Fine Arts and a minor in psych. If I had it to do all over again, I would go back to art school one million times, even though it didn’t do a thing for helping me get a job. It was the most passionate I’ve ever felt in my life, those years of studio art classes.

Sigh.
