My first foray into life as a public intellectual hits homes and newsstands next week — I wrote a one page opinion column on the state of news and democracy for the University of Idaho alumni magazine. It’s at the very end of this pdf document, scroll all the way down, under the heading, “to be considered.”

Bec,
It’s my understanding in talking to Tracey that his Rocky Mountain News column was pulled because it dealt too much with wide-ranging, global (in various senses of that word) issues regarding media & society and wasn’t enough of a commentary on local events and concerns vis-a-vis the Denver and regional media. Typically, they prefer a more insular perspective when what citizens really need to understand and think more about is in the wider context that frames the local idiosyncracies. Oh, well. Another visionary down!
