This blog has been a scary place for me lately. I’m never sure how much to say anymore and do you want travel info., personal narrative or how-to tips for making big life changes? There’s also always the nagging question, “How personal is too personal on the Internet?” I’ve been self-censoring and loathe all forms of censorship.
Meeting the Yahoo! Shine crew at BlogHer was a great opportunity to articulate on camera what XpatAdventures is now, five years after moving abroad, how it started and where it’s going… no matter where I go.
And I just have to say, because you know I am like that about my hair, I sooo wish one of them had told me it looked bad on that side… a quick run-through with the fingers & it’d have been A-ok!
We had a much longer conversation – they did a GREAT job editing.
The sweet interviewer asked me to post How-to Tips. She’s the second person who’s asked recently, so it’s on my to-do list. In September I’ll be working with Bindu Wiles on How to Whittle Down Your Stuff, Clear Your Clutter and Get on with Life. What would you like to know How to Do from XpatAdventures?

I’m also reinventing. I would like to hear about moving, new places, travel adventures and the like.
That said, I recognize that there is an actual person who is sharing these travel experiences on the other end. A person who is more than one dimensional. Someone who may be moving and traveling due to changes or issues in her personal life. You can share those situations honestly without dipping into over sharing.
Remember, your readers are also experiencing life changing situations: the good, the bad and the ugly. Share what is on your heart and on your mind. You won’t shock us and chances are some of us have been there before. Take care!
Thanks, Karen!
Your hair always looks great and, when I played this, I couldn’t see the visuals only hear the audio anyway. if you are worried about “over-sharing”, read some Dooce !
This is great! And how sweet to mention my re-invention at 43 yoa!
I always think it comes down to seizing the moment and realizing that all our decisions are big—always annoys me when we women use “little” this, “little” that. I recall a counselor telling me, as I questioned my ability to take on this Teen Court opportunity, that we women minimize what we can do. I am so glad to see young women today not doing that anymore!
It is all soooooo exciting!
Thanks, Cheryl and Mom! You’re right, Cheryl — oversharing is sort-of relative, isn’t it?
And Mom, thanks for everything!
I think you’re right…this IS going to be fun.
